In all of our family histories there have been individuals who were inspired to leave their comfortable existence, pack the wagon and head to new frontiers. This is our story...
In 1999, we started growing grapes next to our home in Austin as a hobby. Seeing the vines progress each season from bud to flower, then from small berries into luscious grapes was all that was necessary for us to realize that this pursuit was to be an integral part of our lives.
In 2001, we began planting small test vineyards around the Austin area. With each harvest,
we processed our grapes into wine in our garage. Although it was messy and more work than we ever imagined, we were hooked. We embraced and fell in love with the concept of starting a commercial vineyard and winery, and began scouting for a place with mineral-rich decomposed granite soil in the Texas Hill Country.
Not long after, we were led to our dream site — a breathtaking river valley in the Hill Country, only an hour from Austin. In the spring of 2005, we planted our first test block of 13 different varietals, with the goal of discovering which would perform best at our site. Since then, we have added more than 5,000 vines.
In addition to establishing a vineyard, we built a state-of-the-art winery and barrel storage facility, along with our home, where we reside full time with our five children, two dogs, three horses, two cats and 16 chickens.
